The town of Berga, with
a municipal area of 22.54 km2, is the capital of
the comarca (county) of El Berguedà. The
Eix del Llobregat main road (C-1411 / E-09) runs
right through the area. Berga has three exits on
the Eix.
From Barcelona to Berga is about an hour and a quarter’s
journey by car or bus. The company Alsina Graells
runs the bus service to Berga. 20-25 minutes from
Berga is the junction with the Terrassa-Manresa
motorway, near the point where the Eix Transversal
(C-25) crosses the Eix del Llobregat (C-1411). To
the north, the Cadí tunnel on the Eix del
Llobregat itself opens the way to Puigcerdà
and France, in the direction of Toulouse and Paris. |

Berga is
the main centre for shopping and services in the
Berguedà area. The modern town grew up around
the castle of Berga. A series of civil and religious
buildings have borne witness to the town’s
history. Visitors can find out about the origins
of this mediaeval town and discover all its corners
with a stroll around the old centre, with its narrow,
winding streets. |

A visit on a Saturday
includes the chance to stroll around the stalls
of the weekly market, located on the Passeig de
la Indústria. And for a little shopping,
the Carrer Major, the main street for shopping and
socialising, where window-shopping can be combined
with seeing some of the town’s Art Nouveau
buildings.
One of Berga’s attractions is the sanctuary
of Queralt, known as the balcony of Catalonia because
of the fine views to be seen from there. Visiting
Our Lady of Queralt, the cave where it was found
or taking a walk on the Ronda path through the forest
of Queralt are some of the possibilities for visitors
once they are up there. |
